Cracked Earth Landscape Workshop - Saturday 28th June 10am-4pm
Cracked Earth Landscape Workshop - Saturday 28th June 10am-4pm
Take inspiration from a favourite landscape and learn the technique of ‘cracked earth’ felting, creating a piece of beautifully tactile artwork. During this 6 hour workshop you’ll start by sketching out a design (don’t worry … this is just a guide for your felting!), before laying out wool fibres. You’ll learn how to cut a resist, specific to your design, before layering up more wool and applying any special fibres, such as curly locks or wool nepps for added texture.
You’ll wet the fibres and then the felting begins! Once your picture is felted you’ll cut away some of the felt to reveal the riven texture and the layers of colour. Once washed and partially dried you’ll needle-felt the tree line to create scale and add a finishing touch to your unique landscape. You can then take it home to finish drying and frame, if you wish.
If you have a particular frame you’d like to use, please bring it to the workshop. There will be ideas for landscapes, but bring any source material you might like to use.
All felting materials are provided, but please bring a clean towel and a bag to transport your felt home. A light lunch, tempting snacks and hot and cold drinks will be available to fuel you through the workshop. Workshops will be taught with a maximum of 6 and minimum of 2 participants.
Workshops will be held in my fabulous new studio at •Nook• Gallery & Studios at 25 Institute Road in Kings Heath, Birmingham B14 7EG. We’re a minute’s walk from the High Street in this busy Birmingham suburb that features lots of independent retailers and cafes. There are 2 car parks on Institute Road, or free parking on the side roads that surround •Nook•.
