Differential Felting - Sunday 28th June 10.30-5
If you’ve been wet-felting for a little while and are looking to take your skills to another level, then you might like to consider this day of Differential Felting. Utilising the knowledge that differing densities or types of fibre will shrink at unique rates, we can influence the form of a 3-dimensional piece. In essence - finely layered fibres will shrink more than denser areas. In addition the direction that fibres are laid will influence the shrinkage. We can exploit this to produce both form and texture.
This workshop will begin by creating small experimental samples to understand the principles of Differential felting. Then we’ll move on to creating a finished piece. This could be a sculptural urchin vessel, a spiral form, or something truly abstract.
This is an advanced technique and will be best enjoyed if you have good prior experience of making wet felted vessels. This is not suitable for beginners … you will just be very frustrated, and I’d far rather you leave feeling triumphant at the end of the day!
All materials, a light lunch and delicious snacks are included. This workshop will run with a minimum of 2 and maximum of 5 participants.
Workshops will be held in my fabulous new studio at •Nook• Gallery & Studios at 25 Institute Road in Kings Heath, Birmingham B14 7EG. We’re a minute’s walk from the High Street in this busy Birmingham suburb that features lots of independent retailers and cafes. There are 2 car parks on Institute Road, or free parking on the side roads that surround •Nook•.
