Nuno Felted Landscapes - Thursday 18th June 10am-1pm
Take inspiration from a favourite landscape and create a tactile piece of artwork. The technique of Nuno Felting combines wool fibres with open weave fabrics such as silk chiffon, cheesecloth, embroidered tulle and lace. During the felting process the wool fibres travel through the fabric to form a bonded piece of felt.
You’ll start the workshop by sketching out a rough design of your landscape (don’t worry - this doesn’t have to be a masterpiece! This is just a guide for you to use). Then you’ll select your variety of fabrics and wool colours, before laying fibres and placing shaped sections of fabrics. This is an opportunity to experiment with different weights and types of fabric, both natural and synthetic. The final landscape may surprise you as the fibres interact and the fabric sections become textured, adding to the organic and abstract design.
If you have a stash of fabric offcuts that you’d like to try incorporating, feel free to bring them with you and we can assess them for suitability to this process.
Light refreshments and hot and cold drinks will be available to fuel you through the workshop! Workshops will be taught with a maximum of 6 and minimum of 3 participants.
Workshops will be held in my fabulous new studio at •Nook• Gallery & Studios at 25 Institute Road in Kings Heath, Birmingham B14 7EG. We’re a minute’s walk from the High Street in this busy Birmingham suburb that features lots of independent retailers and cafes. There are 2 car parks on Institute Road, or free parking on the side roads that surround •Nook•.
